01. Mandobird (For Foon) Swollen face You’ve cried half the day Found you out In the song that you make Stomach in knots And hard, dirty thoughts Take their place In the song that you made They’re right at home In the song that you make I think of you all the time, love From the bottom of the hole your thoughts have dug Shaky hands You try and forget the past But it’s locked In the song that you made Stand tall and still Crack your back and fight the will To lose your way In the song that you make Don’t lose your way To the song that you make

02. Are You There God? It’s Me, Mark So long I’ve waited for this one Just this one Soft one I gave it up at once Ohhhh Solid and so safe Don’t make a fuss Just this once I know about your ways I won’t forget your face Ohhhh Oh my God, it’s such a shame Living in this farce Oh my love, you give me pain I can’t escape Oh my God, I can’t be saved From what you let me make And oh my love, I won’t explain That it’s far too late For this heart to break I just want to be one of the mindless happy I just want to be one of the oh so lucky

03. Masters of Architecture (For Travis) I’ll take the long road and I’ll be fine Got all my sticks and stones here by my side I’m building up so I can cut the sky I’m building up so I’m not gone when I die Just try to find me, yeah I’m worth the look A game of hide and seek all done by the book And I’m not playing scared, no that’s not my hook Just come and find me – I’ll bet that’s all it took I’m still here with my plans Not holding the hands Of everyone I’ve ever loved The master architect How lonely can you get? But he can’t even build the one Climb on up to the roof and watch the view The oldest tower around’s from 1992 This town gets so hung up on keeping it all new This town’s just so hung up there’s nothing here to do I’m still here with my plans Not holding the hands Of everyone I’ve ever loved The master architect How lonely can you get? But he can’t even build the one All I want It’s all I want It’s all I want It’s all I want And if I hold my tongue I’ll never be lonely all the time And if I fold my bluff you’ll wait for the only other around And if I’m old enough then maybe my tower’s all coming down And if I won’t go up there’s nothing else missing It’s all been a lie And if I don’t want to say goodbye And if I don’t want to say goodbye And if I don’t want to say goodbye Then I don’t really even have to try Then I don’t really even have to try

TOIL 03:16
04. TOIL All the day I wonder what the night will take Built away – boy it’s work to make you stay Boy it’s work that calls you in But is it worth it? Shouldn’t it be plain and easy instead of toil? What do you say if just tonight we kept the pace The longest days – boy it’s work to keep you sane Boy it’s work that keeps you in But is it worth it? Shouldn’t it come so freely instead of toil? “Light is the task when many share the toil”

By Lamplight 04:05
05. By Lamplight If all the lights in Paris went out You’d still be there to guide me If all the songs in my heart died down You’d still sing there beside me We walk hand-in-hand down old Rue Daru Just like them in the movies In all that will come and all that we’ll do Paris will always be our town And miles pass away Just like the days We spent here and there By lamplight And lines melt away Right off your face By lamplight I love you forever If all the waves in the river turned brown It’d still flow like the Seine here If all of the birds on the hills were shot down They’d still fly just for us dear And miles pass away Just like the days We spent here and there By lamplight And lines melt away Right off your face By lamplight I love you forever If all the lights in Paris went out You’d still manage to find me
6.
06. Don’t Fret, My Pet If I’m making plans to take over the world Then my plans as such include just one love And when I realize I’m not made for office Then we’ll abdicate and leave behind politics If I’m taking flight without the use of a motor Then I’m flying blind without a prayer to hope on But something tells me I’m not destined for failure It sounds cheesy love, but it’s all down to your affection If I’m next in line to be the greatest living painter Then I’ve found my muse, my subject, and my patron Abstracts, Trompe-l'œils, and even caricatures These works show my love and sole life obsession

07. In the Mountains (First) Please won’t you meet me in the forest? I’ve had such a cruddy day And you could save it in a moment No-one expects us out today Been living life the wrong way backwards And every city day’s the same And there’s no hope in open suburbs There’s no reason there to stay So I’m in the mountains now Been fighting fires And saving lives And wrestling bears And flying kites But you kept the house And you locked me out Guess I’m in the mountains now To stay

For Paolo 03:57
08. For Paolo In the end I have faith Maybe this was meant to take A horoscope which we make My sole defence the one you break “You better should just fall asleep Schatzi please, schatzi please If you come, I’ll stay You better should just fall asleep Schatzi please, schatzi please If you want, I will stay” Westbahnhof – a cold Sunday The streetcar stops, a solo wait Too many bags, a bike, a weight You help me back towards the train “You better should just fall asleep Schatzi please, schatzi please If you come, I’ll stay You better should just fall asleep Schatzi please, schatzi please If you want, I will stay”

Winnebago 02:17
09. Winnebago Never want for anything And all I’ve got On my back or in my hands In a bag or in a van And all along I’m just totally Only bound now to me Just left the town where I was born Sunday morn All the sons have gone away Down the road Pretend to pray And now I’m gone They won’t come for me It’s unspoken mutually In some years time I’ll come and see Just how it’s been How it’s changed in spite of me That old house and planted tree And your sigh Just maybe we Can put bygones where bygones ought to be

10. Music for the Naturally Unhip Music + Lyric: Mark Andrew Hamilton / Hampus Norén Needn’t bother to even try It’s a father to reason why No real struggle A golden life Public dog and a wife If you go Go so fast They’ll never catch your drift They’ll never bring you back Overcast afternoon Paying the rent for his 600 rooms He’s taking his time Studying the lines of the landscape If you go Go so fast If you go Make it last They’ll never catch your drift They’ll never bring you back Packing the things Filling the gas Taking his time Studying lines in the grass Passes the park on his lonely lost days Swedish summer is over fast No real difference from the last You called it off You called it off If you go Go so fast They’ll never catch your tail And they’ll never clear the dust

85 02:57
11. 85 I’m 85 and I’m still alive Found everything I need In the eyes of my wife We’ve both slowed down Don’t really get around Takes us half the week To even leave the house But it’s a good life I’d do it over more than twice You’re my only man The one by which I stand I bite my tongue against the young They’ll never understand Everywhere I’ve been I know I’ve always seen Twice over because we see it Your eyes and mine between But it’s been a good life I’d do it over more than twice Yes, it’s been a lovely life I’d do it over 100 more times
12.
12. I Want to See You Again I want to see you again Tell me where and when I’ll be there and then I want to hold you again Cuz it’s all gone red Too much to bear alone Cuz when we met I didn’t get why You would have someone like me In mind I want to see you again And maybe then Find the way out Cuz when we met I didn’t get why You would have someone like me In mind I want to see you again Tell me where and when I’ll be there

13. The Way to Happiness Music: Mark Andrew Hamilton Lyric: Mary Cecilia Ryan “Do not waste your life in worry Think of joys alone Count up all the happiness for You’re the only one To make life happy, sad or dull ’Tis no choice but your own You may have sorrows many dear But they can turn to joy If you just laugh and hum a tune People will annoy Remember that we live but once So drive your cares away” Mary Cecilia Ryan 36 Rowantree Road Newcastle-on-Tyne

about

Originally available only on the merch table, 'Diamonds' collects together some of WP's personal favourites that somehow didn't make their way onto an album proper.

"These songs came along without warning somewhere between albums. Songs sometimes have the habit of doing that – of coming when they're ready. Sometimes once you catch them, you also file them away, eventually under dust. Sometimes there is much stone and dirt to sort through to find them. This record is for everyone who looks under rocks or has had a kind word."
